Hello friend! Halloween is coming way too fast for me and I realized that I must share my Black and White Halloween Mantel Decor along with a tutorial of the BOO letters I decorated. It’s a pretty simple craft and very inexpensive so you still have time to make one before Halloween.
I found these BOO letters at Hobby Lobby. They were $6.99 before the 50% . I also picked up several pages of paper in the scrapbook section for $0.39 each. I knew that I wanted to go all black and white so I got five sheets of different designs to try once I got home.
I chose to work with the bold stripes, spiderwebs and medium-sized dot patterns. I began by tracing the letters and cutting the paper so they would fit perfectly together. No special tools needed…regular scissors worked fine to cut out these letters. Just remember that you’ll have trace the letters backwards in order for the front of the scrapbook paper to be correct.
Here is a photo after the paper was cut out. I laid the paper on the letters to make sure there wasn’t any overage that needed trimming.
I chose to decorate the letters with various items I had in my craft drawer. For the “B” I glued small, clear gemstones that were leftover from a Valentines Day bag of gems. The first “O” was the most time consuming. I took puffed paint and traced the spiderwebs and then sprinkled clear glitter over it before the paint dried. The bold stripes on the second “O” were covered with glue and sprinkled with black glitter.
I then painted the letters with black craft paint. After the paint dried, I glued on the scrapbook paper using Mod Podge.
I apologize for the bad lighting in the pic…but I wanted you to see a closeup of the letters once they were finished.
The rest of my mantel decor had touches of glitter so I feel that the BOO letters fit in nicely. I had a few small pumpkins that I painted and then followed up with glue and glitter on the bottoms to make them sparkle. (Don’t we all need a little sparkle here and there?)
Here’s my completed mantel with all of the decorations.
On one of the side tables I have this darling little owl that I bought at Michael’s. The potions books were bought after Halloween last year at Jo-Ann’s. The letters were bright orange and slime green so I painted over those with white. I am pretty sure I paid less than $2 for them.
I thought I’d leave you with this sweet picture of Sugar sleeping on the ottoman. The only thing missing is a fire in the fireplace…
Thank you for spending your time with me today.
Until next time,
