Hello again friends!
Today I have a quick and easy but delicious sandwich recipe to share with you.
It seems like late summer makes us begin to think about the crisp, cool mornings of Fall and the upcoming change of seasons. I went to Hobby Lobby last week and the aisles are full of pumpkins. My Pinterest feeds are filling up with Halloween and Fall decor. Well, this sandwich really fills that urge to indulge in a little Autumn dreamin’ without pulling out the pumpkin spice and sniffing on the cinnamon broom…
This is the kind of sandwich your kids may not savor as much as you. That’s why you can send them off to school and enjoy this great sandwich on your own. I did try out this recipe with my kids (who are teenagers) and it didn’t appeal to them so I had to eat theirs, too. I took one (well, two) for the team.
The recipe is basic. You’ll need bread, butter, sliced cheddar cheese, an apple and hot pepper jelly.
I shared how to make hot pepper jelly at home last year. You can find the recipe and instructions HERE. If you don’t have hot pepper jelly, I would suggest you substitute with peach preserves although you will miss out on the mild heat from the pepper jelly. If you have any ham or turkey, it would be great on this sandwich, too. Even grilled chicken added to this sandwich would work well.
I found a great hot pepper bread in the deli at the supermarket and picked it up specifically for this sandwich. I suggest a wheat bread or some type of specialty sandwich bread from the deli for this.
Slice the apple and place it on the bread along with cheddar cheese and the hot pepper jelly.
Spread softened butter on both sides of the bread and grill the sandwich on each side until it is golden brown and the cheese has melted.
This is total YUM. I love the taste of the sweet yet spicy hot pepper jelly with the crunch of the apple and the melted cheese. The buttery crisp bread rounds out the wonderful mixture of flavors. Again, total YUM.
Sweet indulgence. And I do mean sweet…you won’t need dessert after eating this!
I hate to eat and run but that’s all I have for you today. I am working on some holiday ideas and I can’t wait to share them with you. If you’re a Harry Potter fan, stay tuned…
Thank you again for stopping in today. I hope you have a blessed day!
