Hello friends!
Today’s post is another super simple Harry Potter Christmas ornament…
Flying keys also known as Winged keys.
If you want more Harry Potter Christmas ornament tutorials, check out my post where I made Wanted Wizard Poster Ornaments and Deathly Hallow Ornaments.
I searched the internet and found many tutorials for the flying keys but most of them looked more like butterflies and did not look like the actual keys in the movie.
Here’s a video from the movie:
As you can see, the winged keys have one large white set of wings. I noticed that their shape was similar to flower petals and leaves…so off to Hobby Lobby I went to find something in the floral section that matched this shape. I found this extra-large flower stem. It was so big I had Mary (who is a tad over 5 feet) pose with it so you could see it’s size.
The large flower heads were easy to pull apart. They are attached to each other with a tacky glue that feels similar to glue dots. It was easy to separate each layer.
I found petals that were the size I needed, cut them out and glued them together using clear E6000 glue.
I then glued the petals to the keys. I used keys purchased at Hobby Lobby and Michaels. Click HERE to see one of the packages of keys I bought.
An empty egg carton makes a great place for the keys to dry. You can sit them inside the carton to help them keep their shape.
To make the key look like it is flying in the tree, I chose fishing line to hang the ornament.
As Ina Garten says, “How easy was that?”
I will be sharing Potion Bottle Ornaments soon and revealing my Harry Potter Christmas Tree 2018…so stay tuned!
I hope you are enjoying your holiday season and are having fun decorating your own space.
