Hello again friends! Today I am going to share a simple recipe for All Natural Playdough using ingredients from your kitchen. This is a great rainy day activity or, like me, an activity to do when it’s way too hot to stay outside.
All of the colors are made with natural ingredients but use caution because they may stain clothes. The base dough recipe could be made without a colorant if you’d like to just use white dough.

Ingredients:
- 1 Cup Flour
- 3/8 Cup Salt
- 1 Tablespoon Vegetable Oil
- Natural Dye (see below)
Brown–3/8 Cup plus 1 Tablespoon hot water & 4 Tablespoons Cocoa Powder
Purple—3/8 Cup hot Beet Juice (use the liquid from a 15-oz can of beets)
Orange—3/8 Cup hot water & 1 Tablespoon Paprika
Yellow—3/8 Cup hot water & 1 Tablespoon Turmeric

In a medium-size bowl, combine the flour and salt. Pour in the oil along with your chosen natural dye and stir well.

Knead the dough on a floured surface for a few minutes.

If the clay is too soft, add a small amount of flour. If it is too dry, add a small amount of warm water.

The Cocoa playdough is my favorite because it smells like chocolate! The all natural playdough is completely safe for littles to put in their mouths, but I don’t think they’ll like the taste.

Store the dough in airtight containers in the refrigerator. I used sandwich zip-lock bags. This dough is so fluffy that I enjoyed squishing it while it was in the bags…it’s kind of like squeezing a stress ball.
Lesson Learned: You don’t really have to have littles around to make this fun, all natural playdough. Big kids wanna have fun, too!
Until next time, thank you for stopping by Mulch & Paint!
