What is more fun than leaving a basket of flowers on someone’s door? This is what makes May Day one of my favorite days of the year…just giving a little happiness to others! May Day is right around the corner and it’s not too late to make your own flower baskets!

I shared with you last year my May Day baskets made with soup cans HERE along with my motivation for making May Day baskets. I hope you check it out!
Today, I am sharing my May Day baskets from last year. These were made out of small baskets that I found at the local floral supply store.

The real estate business was keeping me busy and I just didn’t have a lot of time to do anything creative, so simply buying the baskets worked better for me. I bought these small baskets and then used floral foam (the kind made for real flowers, not silk) to be the anchor for the flowers. Be sure to soak the floral foam before you begin your arrangements.
This plan worked well but I didn’t realize the size of the baskets would require so many flowers. I had to make three trips to various grocery stores to get more. (Honestly, I loved it! Who doesn’t want to go to the store and just buy bouquets of flowers?)

A lot of the greenery used came right out of my yard. I have wax myrtle bushes and use the leaves for fresh greenery in my house year-round. Wax myrtle leaves work well in arrangements, too. I love the smell of the trimmed branches. They’re very earthly like rosemary.

I snapped this photo of one of the finished baskets as I was leaving it at a home I had recently sold.
Here’s a few more photos…

These turned out cute!
I do think soup cans are a better size for making large quantities of May Day baskets to give away. I am planning to use cans again this year and have big plans for making more “baskets” than I have before. Our state (like most of you) is still under a shelter in place order…so I think spreading as much cheer as possible this year is really needed. I am super excited because I have a friend who is a wonderful floral designer coming by to help me. I will try to post on social media to keep everyone updated. This is going to be awesome!!!
I do hope that you may take this opportunity to spread a little happiness to others with May Day baskets. If you do, please be sure to share it on my Facebook page….I want to see it!
