Hello and Happy Holidays friends!
We’re counting down to Christmas and the excitement is building!
Everyone is saying that 2020 is different. True. But at this time of year, the one thing we should try to hold on to are the traditions of our holiday season. If we can’t visit family, let’s recreate the special dish or dessert that we usually enjoy with them. Pull out old family photos or videos and relive special times when everyone was together. Watch those Christmas movies as a family. Keep hope and love alive in your home. Let’s end 2020 on a high note as we welcome welcome welcome 2021!
Today, I am going to show you a quick and inexpensive way to make over a $1 gold tinsel Christmas tree from Dollar Tree.

As Linus said, “It isn’t such a bad tree”….but I wanted to make a large tree that could sit along my new gold cityscape collection that I bought at Target last year. It had good bones. So I grabbed two trees.

I stripped off all of the tinsel first.

I then cut strips of the ribbon I chose and beginning at the top, wrapped the ribbon around the tree and secured it with hot glue.

You could pull the ribbon tighter than I did and angle them to form a tighter tree-shaped tree. I began gluing and kind-of liked the obvious stacked look so I glued my ribbon loosely as I went downward.

That’s the complete makeover! I think it has a little modern style to it. The glittered dots make me think of hanging ornaments.

I made a second one out of white fur ribbon. Both sit with my gold cityscape and various other glass items I have had for almost thirty years.

They are all displayed behind my sofa on a sofa table my Uncle Butch custom made for me.

I think I say this in every crafting post I write, but I’m old and repeat myself…before you shop, shop your own home. Look for items around your house or older things you have stored for years and try to remake them for today’s decor. I get such satisfaction from an inexpensive one-of-a-kind item that I made. It makes it much easier to change up my decorations because I don’t have a lot of money involved in them.
Yes, I am still decorating. I am just beginning to shop. I do plan to wrap some gifts (for the first time this holiday season) this afternoon. We’ll all get this done together!
Until next time….Merry Christmas!

What a cute upcycle.
Thank you so much! Merry Christmas!
This is such a cute idea Kristi! Love it.
Thank you Kim! I guess we all walk through Dollar Tree wondering how we can take what they have and make it better. If we fail, it’s only $1. I love these crafts most of all because they are quick and inexpensive. Thank you again! ~Kristi

Hi Kristi, this is such a fun idea, and I can see this used in so many ways. Love your bejeweled ribbon choice! Thanks so much for coming by and joining in at All About Home. I’m featuring your post this evening. Happy New Year’s Week!
That ribbon was just perfect to make into a tree; I thought you had accordion pleated wire-edged ribbon until I got further into the post. One would go well with my bottle brush tree forest!
That ribbon was just pure luck. I have had it for years and when I decided to make a tree from ribbon, it just worked. This was the “tree” year for me…I mixed all kinds of trees in my decor…glass, ribbon, bottle brush and a ton of mini-trees. Honestly, most of them are still sitting out as I am typing this. I really need to get my holiday decor put up! I think a ribbon tree would work great with your bottle brush trees! Thanks for stopping by Mulch and Paint! ~Kristi
