Hello again friends!
OK…you got me….my title today is Boy’s Room Refresh-One Room Challenge Week 4. Unfortunately, I was AWOL for weeks two and three. (So, if you don’t mind, let’s just look the other way and pretend that there was a two and three.)

When we were last together I was sharing how my son, Trevor, is in college and commuting to school while living at home. I wanted to update his room and give it more of a modern and cohesive feel so that he would have space to live, sleep and work in. Above is a photo of some of the items from my idea board. My color palette is going to be off white, brown and blue. I want to mix metals, wood tones and leather items together with a little pop of color using multiple shades of blue and possibly red or yellow.
The idea that I had was to move his bed under the double windows in the bedroom and flank both sides with bookshelves. Trevor is a collector of books and his current space was overflowing.

My plan was also to paint an accent wall behind the bookshelves. I wanted to use a dark blue. After working with several paint colors, I chose Sherwin Williams Salty Dog.

I basically matched the existing cream/beige color that was currently on the wall and refreshed the other three walls with the matching paint. Here’s a photo after I painted the accent wall using SW Salty Dog.

I had wanted to use white bookshelves on each side of the bed. One day while looking through Facebook Marketplace, I saw a set of Ikea Billy Bookshelves for sale in a birch finish. They were exactly what I needed and the measurements worked out perfectly. I messaged the seller and they were sold. Good thing Ikea furniture is very affordable and there’s an Ikea store less than an hour from me!
Ikea is a magical place like Disney World and the wholesale plant nursery to me. I love going there! (Their food is pretty good, too.) Thankfully, I found several items for Trevor’s room while shopping at Ikea.
First, I bought two Billy Bookshelves.

I also got these great lights to attach to the top of the shelves. These are very modern and will add a great second light source in the room.

I also wanted to replace the white window blinds currently in the room with a darker window shade. The morning sun shines directly into Trevor’s front window and the white blinds seemed to make the room even brighter first thing in the morning. I promised Trevor that I would look for some type of darkening window treatment and was looking for dark shades. Well, Ikea had those, too!

But wait, there’s more! I had ordered what I thought was a washed denim-colored comforter and pillow shams online. When they came, I was very disappointed in the color. I found exactly the color I was looking for in a duvet cover at Ikea. So, I bought the duvet cover and shipped the other one back.

I had a very productive visit to Ikea and after painting the walls in Trevor’s room, I feel like the room is actually beginning to take shape.
Next week, I hope to start putting all of these great finds together along with some of the additional items from my idea board and see how this One Room Challenge comes together!
