We are getting closer to the BIG REVEAL of our Boy’s Room Refresh! This Spring, many designers and bloggers joined the One Room Challenge and have spent the last seven weeks renovating a room and sharing their progress. I chose my son Trevor’s bedroom to refresh and am heading into the home stretch!
Life took over once again and I did not post a Week 6 progress report. Today is a summary of both week six and seven. When I last updated you, I was painting the walls and shopping for furniture and accent pieces. My family took a magical trip to Ikea and I purchased a lot of goodies at the Ikea Atlanta store. Other items have been ordered online through Wayfair and Home Depot. You can visit my last post HERE.
Now it’s time to start putting the room together!
We assembled the Ikea Billy Bookshelves and placed them on each side of the double windows. I was so happy to find that the size of the bookshelves fit perfectly on either side of the windows. The bed fits right in the middle.

To add color and interest, I added curtain panels that have a modern fabric design at the windows. I had promised Trevor that I would give him some type of room darkening window treatments, so I used window shades I got at (you guessed it…) Ikea!

Did you notice the lights hanging from the bookshelves? Those are mounted at the top and give great accent lighting. Another Ikea purchase.
The rug came in! I love the brightness of it on the floor along with specs of browns and blacks. The rug was rolled up tightly when it was shipped, so I had to put items around the perimeter of it to keep the rug from flipping up at the ends!!
Trevor got very excited when I put up the bookshelves and immediately filled them with his collection of books. I may try to stage the bookshelves later, but he’s adamant the they should stay as they are. We’ll see….
For now, I am using the same bedspread that has been on Trevor’s bed for many years. It is reversible with mixed plaids on one side and a khaki/beige color on the other. I simply flipped it over.

The leather poufs arrived from Etsy. To save shipping costs, I ordered them without stuffing. I didn’t realize how much stuffing would be needed for each pouf. For now, I gathered some old pillows and a blanket to stuff the first pouf with. I’ll have to find more blankets to fill the second one. I love their size and color!
Finally, everything is starting to make sense in the room. I am still working to finish the refresh and have ordered a new headboard and throw pillows. Trevor has chosen some posters that he wants framed to hang on the walls. This will likely be the most stressful week as I try to get the room completed and report my finished room to you for the finale. Stay tuned….
Thank you for visiting Mulch and Paint today!
Until next time,

It’s looking so good!!
Thank you! I just finished his room last night and am about to write up the reveal. So glad to be finished! Now, on to the next project….
