Hello again friends!
Each year, I try to add to my ever growing Harry Potter Christmas tree.
This year, I have made (along with my wonderful daughter, Mary) two new ornaments that were simple and inexpensive to make, but look great on the tree.
The first needs little instruction. We made Daily Prophet newspaper headlines to sit on tree limbs. After researching different options, I chose to download the Daily Prophet covers from Geeks & Dragons. There were 18 covers sent in pdf form. The covers have full articles and look like the papers from the movie all the way to the golden “P” in Prophet.
I bought several sheets of off-white copier paper from Hobby Lobby in the scrapbook section for 49 cents. We simply printed the covers onto the paper, stacked blank sheets of copier paper underneath (at least 18 sheets), turned the paper in half and tied everything together with brown string. Once all of the covers were assembled, I tucked them into the tree by placing them on branches.
I made eight covers at a cost of around $2 per ornament.
The second ornament came together just as easily. I had bought several wooden circular ornaments at Michael’s after Christmas several years ago. (You know, hoarding crafters do things like that…buy supplies that they have no idea what they’re going to use them for.) I thought these would make great 9 3/4 ornaments and clear out some of my hoarding surplus. Any round ornaments will work.
First, we painted the ornaments white with craft paint. To cover the wood, two to three coats were needed.

After the paint had dried, the top and sides were painted using a black paint marker. A black Sharpie would also work well.
I then spray painted the ornaments with one coat of semi-gloss clear spray paint.

Using the Cricut, I cut the 9 3/4 out of black vinyl and transferred it to the ornament.

I sprayed a top coat of semi-gloss clear spray paint over the completed ornament.
Here’s the finished product on this year’s tree.

I promise to share my 2022 Harry Potter Christmas Tree next week with plenty of photos!
